Hi!
I decided to dedicate this blog to sculpture in general and to sculptors and sculpture-related events specific to Austin, Texas.
I chose the stone lion as my avatar because it reminds me of being a little kid in Padova (Padua), Italy. I have a vague memory of my mom letting me "ride" on top of a similar lion sculpture. I remember the feel of the cold, smooth stone, and I remember loving how massive the lion felt under me.
There are many things that I appreciate about having lived outside of the US. And one of the things I value most about having spent a few but formative years in Italy is having grown up around—and living daily surrounded by—art of all kinds: architecture, murals, religious art, and, of course monumental figurative s
culpture. There is something about massive stone that spoke to me even as a little kid... about time, permanence, and impermanence.
